Congressman Hunt Labels Recent Attacks on Political Figures as “One-Sided” Campaign Against Republicans
Congressman Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, accused Democrats of inciting violence against Republicans and federal law enforcement officers in a Wednesday statement, claiming attacks are “overwhelmingly directed” at conservatives.
Hunt described Tuesday’s incident involving Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., as a federal matter, noting that the man who sprayed an unknown liquid on her during a Minneapolis town hall event—55-year-old Anthony Kazmierczak—was arrested and booked for third-degree assault by county police.
“This is not a ‘both sides’ conversation,” Hunt stated. “It’s clearly overwhelmingly coming from one side to the other.”
Hunt referenced his military service as an Apache helicopter pilot in Iraq, stating: “I have literally survived war. I understand exactly what war looks like.” He contrasted this with Omar’s claim of surviving combat, adding that people should be careful when they talk about war experiences without having been in it.
Hunt cited multiple high-profile incidents—including President Donald Trump being shot and Charlie Kirk being murdered—when he said Republicans are the primary targets of violence. “I’m kind of sick of this both sides argument,” Hunt added, noting he receives “a lot of death threats in my own home and office.”
He accused Democrat officials and activists of “literally inciting violence” and encouraging attacks on political figures and federal agents. Hunt warned against escalating confrontations with conservatives, particularly in Texas: “We believe in our Second Amendment rights here in this state, so be very, very cautious.”
“If you want to talk about making peace, let’s make peace,” he said. “But at some point, enough is enough.”
