“Home Improvement” actor Zachery Ty Bryan has been sentenced to 16 months in county jail after pleading guilty to a felony DUI charge in California. People confirmed Tuesday that court documents detailed the sentencing following Bryan’s appearance on February 23 in La Quinta, California for a February 2024 arrest.
Bryan, 44, entered a plea agreement with prosecutors admitting guilt to the felony DUI and acknowledging two prior DUI convictions. The judge imposed a 16-month sentence without probation, with 57 days already credited toward his term. After accounting for time served, Bryan is expected to spend more than 14 months in custody.
This California conviction is part of a pattern of legal cases involving Bryan across multiple states. In Oregon, he faces a March 2 hearing in Lane County court for probation violations tied to a 2023 domestic violence conviction. Bryan was arrested by Eugene Police in July 2023 after an altercation, leading to charges of Assault in the Fourth Degree (APA), third-degree robbery, and misdemeanor harassment. He later pleaded guilty to “felony assault in the fourth degree constituting domestic violence” and served seven days in jail before facing probation violations.
By December 29, Bryan admitted to three probation violations. Lane County’s chief deputy district attorney noted his probation officer recommended he serve the full 19- to 20-month sentence originally assigned for the 2023 conviction. Separately, Bryan and his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, 32, were arrested on November 29 in Oregon for alleged probation violations. At a December 3 arraignment, Bryan denied violating probation and was released without bail after community supervision placement. Cartwright pleaded not guilty to one count of driving under the influence and multiple counts of reckless behavior.
Bryan has faced additional legal challenges: In October 2024, he was arrested in Oklahoma for driving while intoxicated with a revoked license; in January 2025, he was charged in South Carolina with second-degree domestic violence after allegedly choking and punching Cartwright. Earlier in 2020, Bryan was charged with felony strangulation and fourth-degree assault following an argument with Cartwright, later pleading guilty to two misdemeanor domestic violence charges that included a seven-day jail term on 36-month probation.
