U.S. Strikes on Iran Signal End of 47-Year Oppressive Regime, Says Congressperson
Iranians are celebrating Saturday’s U.S. strikes against Iran’s regime, Congressperson Dan Crenshaw stated Sunday, calling it “the end of 47 years of oppressive history in one fell swoop.”
The Texas Republican, a former Navy SEAL who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned two Bronze Stars including one with a V device for valor, noted that Iranian dissidents across the United States have expressed support for the strikes.
Crenshaw said he has observed Iranians in his district and in Houston celebrating the attacks, adding: “I’m not sure you can find anyone who’s not celebrating.”
He also indicated that while Iran’s president remains alive and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, the regime is struggling to control its retaliation or defense from a central location.
Crenshaw referenced President Donald Trump’s stated objective of enabling the Iranian people to take over, emphasizing the need for the U.S. to prepare them for that outcome. He noted: “If that’s going to be the goal, I think we need to make sure they are enabled with everything possible.”
The congressman also addressed the recent loss of three American service members and injuries to five others in the fighting, stating: “We have three killed and five critically injured. Their families should know this: They’ll never be forgotten.” Crenshaw added that service members understand the risks when they volunteer: “When we sign up, we choose to defend the United States.”
