Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, are scheduled for transfer to the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City following a U.S. military operation.

In a decisive action early Saturday, American forces captured Maduro and transported him from Venezuela aboard a warship. This move removed a sitting leader from office and marks the culmination of months of escalating pressure by the Trump administration on the oil-rich nation.

Maduro and his wife were taken overnight from their residence at a military base and are now en route to New York, where they will face criminal charges in the Southern District of New York. U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed both have been indicted on multiple counts, including Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States.

“Nicolas Maduro has been charged with these offenses, and they will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts,” Bondi stated.
