Trump Warns Democrats: Refusal to Cooperate on Immigration Creates ‘Dangerous Circumstances’

President Donald Trump on Sunday demanded that Democrat governors and mayors nationwide assist federal immigration authorities, warning that their refusal has created “dangerous circumstances” and resulted in the deaths of at least two American citizens.

The president outlined four specific actions he required from Democratic officials: turn over all criminal illegal migrants currently detained in state prisons or local jails—along with those possessing active warrants or known criminal histories—to federal authorities for immediate deportation; transfer custody of all illegal migrants arrested by local police to immigration officials; compel law enforcement to aid federal agencies in apprehending and detaining wanted illegal migrants; and partner with the federal government to rapidly remove criminal illegal migrants.

Trump specifically targeted Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, accusing them of obstructing cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and fostering opposition to federal immigration operations. He contrasted Republican-led states like Texas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Louisiana—where ICE arrested over 150,000 criminal illegal migrants without protests or riots this past year—with Democrat-run “sanctuary cities” he claimed prioritize illegal immigrants over law-abiding citizens.

The president argued such policies have endangered both public safety and law enforcement personnel, urging Congress to pass legislation ending sanctuary city practices nationwide. Trump stated that American communities must serve as “safe sanctuaries for law-abiding American citizens only.”
