President Donald Trump stated the United States is “not afraid of boots on the ground” in Venezuela should it become necessary, indicating U.S. forces remain prepared for further action to maintain order following the operation that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.

In a Saturday press conference, Trump was asked whether American troops on the ground would be part of the administration’s plan to “run the country.” He replied that the phrase “boots on the ground” does not deter him, adding that U.S. forces were deployed at a high level during the overnight mission.

“We’re not afraid of it,” Trump said, stressing that the administration intends to ensure Venezuela is “run properly” and that the operation was conducted “not in vain.”

Trump characterized the Maduro capture mission as a “very dangerous attack” that could have “gone very, very badly,” warning of potential heavy casualties, loss of equipment, and a major blow to U.S. credibility.

He noted U.S. forces are now positioned in the region and “ready to go again if we have to,” signaling possible continued military involvement depending on unfolding events.
