President Trump speaks about immigration alongside family members affected by crime committed by undocumented immigrants, at the White House Friday.

In his first State of the Union address of his second term, President Donald Trump touted significant accomplishments in immigration enforcement and border security.

The president stated that after four years during which millions of illegal aliens crossed U.S. borders “totally unfettered and unchecked,” America now has “the strongest and most secure border in American history by far.” He added that “in the past nine months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted to the United States,” though he emphasized allowing legal immigration for those who “will love our country and will work hard to maintain it.”

Trump also urged Congress to pass legislation barring states from granting commercial driver’s licenses to illegal aliens. He introduced the proposed law named after Delilah Coleman, a first grader severely injured in a car accident allegedly caused by an illegal alien driving with a commercial license.

According to Trump, 5-year-old Delilah Coleman was struck by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer traveling at over 60 mph in June 2024. The driver, he claimed, was “an illegal alien let in by [former President] Joe Biden and given a commercial driver’s license by open-border politicians in California.” Doctors initially predicted Delilah would never walk or talk, but she is now learning to walk in first grade. She stood with her father, Marcus Coleman during applause in the House chamber.

Trump emphasized that “many, if not most, illegal aliens do not speak English and cannot read even the most basic road signs,” calling for the immediate passage of the “Dalilah Law.”

The president also detailed his meeting with families who lost loved ones to illegal immigration. He referenced 16-year-old Lizbeth Medina, a high school cheerleader killed by Rafael Romero, a 25-year-old illegal alien serving consecutive life sentences in Texas.

Medina was scheduled to perform at her town’s Christmas parade but never arrived home. Her mother, Jacqueline, found her dead in a bathtub after being stabbed 25 times. Trump described the killer as having “brutally extinguished the brightest light in her family’s life.”

In closing remarks, Trump stated: “We can never forget that many in this room not only allowed the border invasion to happen before I got involved, but indeed they would do it all over again if they ever had the chance. If they ever got elected, they would open up those borders to some of the worst criminals anywhere in the world. The only thing standing between Americans and a wide-open border right now is President Donald J. Trump and our great Republican patriots in Congress.”
