President Donald Trump demanded on Saturday that streaming company Netflix immediately fire its board member Susan Rice, warning the firm would “pay the consequences” if it failed to comply, in an escalation of political tensions following Rice’s recent criticisms of corporations she claimed were bending to Trump.

In a Truth Social post, Trump labeled Rice as “racist” and “Trump Deranged,” asserting that her removal was imperative. The former Obama and Biden administration official has served on Netflix’s board since 2023 after an earlier stint from 2018 to 2020.

The president also linked his demand to a recent post by Laura Loomer, which included a video clip of Rice criticizing institutions and corporations that had “taken a knee to Trump” by accommodating his policies. In the clip, Rice warned such companies would face an “accountability agenda” from Democrats if they won the 2026 midterm elections and the 2028 presidential race.

Rice argued in her remarks that some organizations were misreading the political moment, noting Trump’s unpopularity and cautioning that a future shift in power could lead to severe consequences for companies making short-term decisions to align with his administration. She also suggested Democrats would not simply “forgive” corporations for actions taken during Trump’s presidency.

The demand coincides with Netflix’s pursuit of a $72 billion deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. Bloomberg reported last week that the Justice Department is investigating whether this transaction could harm moviegoers, while Variety indicated Paramount Skydance remains active in efforts to push Netflix out so it can secure the Warner Bros. Discovery assets.

Additionally, Rice recently criticized Trump’s push to dismantle federal diversity, equity, and inclusion rules, stating: “Well, if you’re a white male Christian cisgender macho MAGA man, you can be as dumb as a rock and be deemed qualified to serve as Secretary of Defense.”
