State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated in recent remarks that President Donald Trump is committed to pursuing peace while forcefully defending U.S. national interests and ensuring Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon under his leadership.

Pigott highlighted that the president’s recent State of the Union address defined peace through strength as the approach: seeking peace where possible but “will never hesitate to stand up for America’s national interests.”

“That’s the definition of peace through strength,” he said.

The administration has implemented its renewed maximum pressure campaign against Iran, Pigott noted. The policy aims to cut off revenue streams Tehran allegedly uses to fund destabilizing activities across the region. Pigott emphasized that sanctions targeting Iran’s energy exports, financial sector, and entities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are critical for denying Tehran resources to advance nuclear weapons programs, expand ballistic missile capabilities, and finance terrorist proxies.

“The context here, when it comes to the Iranian regime, is really important,” Pigott added. “We have a maximum pressure policy we’re implementing.”

Pigott reiterated that President Trump’s position on Iran’s nuclear ambitions is unequivocal: “The bottom line here is very clear. President Trump said the Iranian regime can never have a nuclear weapon. He won’t allow it to happen.”

The administration maintains that economic pressure combined with a clear deterrent posture is the most effective path to preventing Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. This strategy has been reinforced by Trump’s State of the Union address.

“President Trump believes in peace through strength,” Pigott stated. “He has built the most powerful military in the history of the world. But President Trump is a peacemaker. He’s a dealmaker.”

Under this doctrine, diplomatic engagement is possible only from a position of leverage and military and economic strength. The White House has not indicated any shift away from its strategy, as officials continue to signal that preventing a nuclear-armed Iran remains a top national security priority.
