Rubio Calls Jimmy Lai’s 20-Year Sentence ‘Unjust and Tragic’
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Monday the sentencing of Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai as an “unjust and tragic conclusion” to his case, urging authorities to grant him humanitarian parole.
Lai received a 20-year prison sentence on Monday, concluding the city’s largest national security case that has drawn global concern over Beijing’s clampdown on freedoms in the former British colony.
