RNC Chair Gruters: Republican Congress Critical for Trump to Fully Implement America First Agenda
Joe Gruters, chair of the Republican National Committee, stated Wednesday that President Donald Trump’s ability to fully execute his America First agenda depends on Republicans securing control of Congress ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
In a recent post on X, Gruters highlighted what he called swift Republican action following Trump’s return to office, asserting that the party has already proven its capacity to govern when unified. “From swearing in President Trump, to making America respected again, and to the historic tax cuts for working families, Republicans have not wasted a single minute delivering for the American people,” Gruters said.
The RNC chair framed 2025 as a pivotal year, emphasizing that sustained momentum is necessary for Republicans to achieve long-term policy victories. As the year draws to a close, he noted that the focus must shift from initial accomplishments to ensuring Trump receives the legislative support needed to advance his priorities.
“We want to give President Trump a full four years to implement his America First agenda, but he needs a Republican Congress to do that,” Gruters added in his post.
Gruters’ comments underscore a central Republican argument for the upcoming midterms: divided government impedes conservative reforms, while unified GOP control accelerates them. Republicans have long maintained that Trump’s agenda—including border security, tax reform, deregulation, and a more assertive foreign policy—requires congressional backing to be fully realized.
The RNC leader also urged supporters to begin organizing now for the 2026 elections, stating, “I look forward to working with all of you to elect Republicans in 2026 and delivering another year of big wins for the American people.”
Closing his post on an optimistic note, Gruters expressed confidence in Trump’s leadership: “Happy New Year, everyone — and remember, the best is yet to come.”
