Retired Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman announced he will run to unseat Sen. Ashley Moody, R-Fla., in the next election, framing the race as a fight against corruption and allegiance to President Donald Trump. In a campaign video released Tuesday, Vindman stated: “The last time you saw me was here,” referencing his testimony during Trump’s first impeachment. The video opens with footage of his role in the 2019 impeachment inquiry over Trump’s dealings with Ukraine.

Vindman, a 21-year Army veteran wounded in Iraq, emphasized his service under presidents of both parties shaped his decision to run. “I’ve seen corruption in Washington up close,” he said. He cast Moody as a reliable Trump ally, accusing Republicans of appointing her to the Senate specifically to serve as a “yes” vote for Trump and billionaires.

“Her’s not Florida’s senator,” Vindman declared. “She’s theirs.”

Vindman has remained a polarizing figure since the impeachment, drawing sharp criticism from Trump allies. Elon Musk previously accused him of “treason,” a charge Vindman and his supporters have repeatedly rejected. His twin brother, Rep. Eugene Vindman, D-Va., won a competitive congressional race in November 2024, defeating Republican Derrick Anderson after succeeding former Virginia Rep. Abigail Spanberger.
