A fatal shooting involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer and a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis has drawn sharp criticism from House Republican Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., who accused demonstrators of obstructing federal law enforcement operations.

Speaking on Thursday, Fine stated that protesters should “stay out of the way” of ICE officers, emphasizing their role in repelling foreign invaders and deporting illegal immigrants.

“If you impede the actions of our law enforcement as they seek to repel foreign invaders from our country, you get what’s coming to you,” Fine said.

The incident has intensified political tensions in Minnesota, where thousands gathered in Minneapolis for protests, with demonstrations also reported in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix, Orlando, and Columbus. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem characterized the shooting as an act of “domestic terrorism” and maintained that the officer acted in self-defense. However, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, both Democrats, disputed this assessment.

Fine specifically criticized Mayor Frey for instructing ICE officers to “get out of his city,” demanding that Frey be arrested for obstructing federal law enforcement.

“They are the federal government enforcing legitimate federal law … He should be arrested, and he should be put in jail,” Fine stated.
