New York City Health Coordinator’s Deleted Social Media Posts Call for Israel’s Elimination Under Fire
A longtime New York City Health Department employee has faced intense scrutiny after social media posts surfaced containing calls for the elimination of Israelis and inflammatory anti-Israel rhetoric.
According to the Jewish watchdog group Canary Mission, community coordinator Achmat Akkad wrote in a post on X about a year ago that “1 Israeli left in this world would be one too many!”
Akkad has reportedly worked at the department since 2017. In another deleted post from November 10, 2021, he stated: “Jews that don’t support apartheid are safe. Zionists aren’t!” as captured by Canary Mission and shared on X.
The revelations come amid ongoing scrutiny of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s Health Department, which has faced criticism for allegedly using taxpayer funds to organize a “global oppression” session accusing Israel of genocide.
Akkad, who was hired before Mamdani took office, reportedly made additional inflammatory statements in posts archived and later deleted from his suspended X account. One post claimed: “Israel exists by sacrificing the blood of Black and brown people as an offering to white supremacy.” Another stated that Zionists are responsible for far-right parties being elected globally, attacks on free speech, wars in MENE, dehumanization of Muslims, and increased police power.
When contacted, Akkad confirmed his role at the Health Department but declined further comment. He previously identified himself online as the “US Ambassador to Harlem.”
The controversy has prompted calls for both city and federal investigations. Canary Mission stated: “If this is who gets elevated into city government, what does that say about the leadership elevating him? New Yorkers should be outraged.”
Akkad first joined city government in 2015 with the Human Resources Administration under former Mayor Bill de Blasio and currently earns approximately $65,000 annually.
