Mullin Slams Democrats for Blocking Trump’s Border Crackdown
Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., launched a sharp critique against Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday, defending President Donald Trump’s stringent measures on immigration enforcement and accusing opponents of obstructing efforts to uphold national laws.
Speaking via Newsmax Wires, Mullin insisted that the fundamental conflict lies between whether the United States remains “a nation of laws or a lawless nation.” He argued that immigrants who enter legally seek opportunity under stable conditions but those entering illegally are “federal fugitives” with no incentive to abide by U.S. legal boundaries.
“The Democrats want to make this about immigration, make this about migrants … It has nothing to do with that,” Mullin declared in his statement delivered via the Newsmax platform.
Mullin stressed, “It has us simply enforcing our nation’s laws so everybody will have the same opportunity to thrive.”
He pointed out that past Democrat presidents, including Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, once publicly endorsed stricter border enforcement. Clinton frequently highlighted border security during the 1990s, while Obama in a prior statement acknowledged the need for lawbreaking deterrence.
Mullin questioned why Democrats now resist these policies when implemented by Trump.
“… the country, by the way, that took her in, that gave her an opportunity to actually become a lawmaker… she doesn’t love our country…”
He further argued that while Democrats criticize current actions, efforts targeting drug and trafficking networks like interdictions at sea have prevented countless potential tragedies.
He also drew attention to the ongoing crisis of drug overdose deaths. Comparing over 66,500 fatalities in 2024 to roughly half the US military casualties during Vietnam’s conflict, he emphasized the need for disrupting narcotics flows.
Mullin added his criticism toward some Democrat lawmakers’ perceived stance against America’s openness – including Rep. Ilhan Omar, whose immigration background Trump used as contrast to current policies.
“Guess what?” Mullin remarked.
“The president is attacking them in international waters and sinking their boats… You see a full-frontal attack on these criminals.”
