Minnesota Whistleblower Accusations Against Gov. Walz Spark House Committee Investigation
Gov. Tim Walz speaks during a press conference announcing a budget deal Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Minnesota State Capitol.
Rep. James Comer of Kentucky revealed Tuesday that his committee is actively considering recommending criminal charges against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, as well as Attorney General Keith Ellison.
According to Comer’s office, the investigation has uncovered “alarming accounts” from government employees detailing a massive social services fraud scheme under Democratic leadership in Minnesota. These allegations suggest state officials were aware of systemic problems but chose not to act.
“The committee is reviewing claims that Governor Walz and possibly Attorney General Ellison made the decision not to do anything about widespread fraud within our DHS, seemingly to avoid political fallout,” Comer’s office confirmed.
The whistleblower accounts mirror those reported by over 480 current and former Minnesota Department of Human Services employees. They claim they notified Walz “early on” about fraud schemes involving contractors connected to political allies but received instead threats, monitoring and attempts to discredit their reports.
“These bureaucrats told us we were ‘overreacting’ or trying to ‘politicize’ legitimate concerns,” a whistleblower representative stated Tuesday. “When we explained how our agencies could be defrauded of hundreds of millions if nothing was done… we got the opposite response.”
The group alleged officials systematically retaliated against those raising concerns, while simultaneously allowing fraud that likely cost American taxpayers billions.
Comer’s investigation already appears to have identified improper payments worth at least $250 million. The committee and Treasury Department are requesting extensive documentation from Minnesota agencies to determine the true scope of financial harm.
“As whistleblower after whistleblower came forward with similar stories, it became increasingly clear we were dealing with a systematic pattern,” Comer’s office added. “We will calculate exactly how much taxpayer money was lost and ensure accountability for those responsible.”
The committee intends to hold Governor Walz and Attorney General Ellison accountable if the evidence supports whistleblower claims.
“This is just one example of Democrat-run systems being susceptible to fraud when political influence enters the equation,” said Comer’s office.
