Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., stated on Thursday that the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into Medicaid and pandemic-era fraud in Minnesota is just beginning, echoing Chairman James Comer’s warning that more misconduct could be uncovered.

During the contentious hearing, Biggs highlighted how weak oversight of massive federal programs has enabled billions of taxpayer dollars to be siphoned off across multiple states. He described extensive fraud involving Medicaid funds and pandemic relief money.

The hearing grew heated as Republicans accused Democrats of deflecting from evidence presented. Biggs noted that Democratic leaders repeatedly acknowledged the existence of fraud in general terms but rejected specific data, instead labeling criticism as political or racially motivated.

Witnesses testified that large sums of money were being moved out of Minnesota daily and that the scheme extended to broader multistate networks. Biggs also criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison, asserting both officials knew about the fraud and failed to take action to stop it.

According to Biggs, witnesses claimed that Walz and Ellison were not only complicit but actively supported and sustained the fraud while protecting it. He stated that the committee expects Walz to testify in February, calling that appearance a critical next step in expanding the investigation.
