Former presidential adviser Dick Morris has stated that the recent strikes against Iran and the killing of its Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will represent a defining moment for President Donald Trump’s second term and could lead to Republicans capturing victory in November’s midterm elections.
“This was probably going to be the most significant day of Trump’s second term,” Morris said.
“Barack Obama built his popularity as president around the killing of Osama bin Laden, which became his crowning achievement,” Morris added. “This victory, I believe, could seal the midterm elections.”
Morris described Khamenei’s death as being “at least as important and probably more so” than bin Laden’s assassination.
“The fact that Trump pulled the trigger and cooperated with Israel in this operation is significant,” Morris emphasized.
The former adviser urged for unanimous support of the military action, arguing that Democratic criticism of the strikes is politically misguided ahead of midterms.
“There should be unanimous support for what Trump did, and to claim there could be a war powers objection is absurd,” Morris stated.
Morris also warned that Democrats’ opposition could backfire, stating: “If the Democrats are foolish enough to oppose him or criticize him, they’ll keep this issue alive. And it will really help Trump in the long term.”
He further claimed that Khamenei’s killing is “the most important thing the United States has done in decades,” noting its impact on regional stability and the war on terror.
