Iowa Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer: Trump’s Economic Message Resonates Powerfully with Voters
Iowa Lt. Gov. Chris Cournoyer said President Donald Trump’s recent messaging on affordability, energy independence, and limited government has generated strong enthusiasm among voters—particularly working families—as Republicans prepare for the midterm elections following Trump’s appearance in Iowa this week.
Cournoyer attended Trump’s speech in Iowa on Tuesday and described the crowd’s response as “electric,” noting that supporters were “very fired up” for the president. She emphasized that Iowa has delivered for him “three, three cycles in a row” with consistent voter support.
“The energy in the crowd was just electric. A lot of people are very fired up for President Trump,” Cournoyer said on Newsmax’s National Report. She highlighted Trump’s focus on economic issues that have produced tangible results over the past year, stating, “You know, the focus is… how he has delivered over the last 12 months for the working families of Iowa and America. That is making a difference.”
Cournoyer pointed to Trump’s emphasis on domestic investment and energy policy, specifically an announcement involving nationwide expansion of 15 biofuels. She noted that this initiative “is good for our producers here, our corn growers, and it’s also good for consumers,” while reinforcing national security through energy independence.
She described Trump’s governing approach as the central appeal for Iowa voters, stressing how it prioritizes “making sure we are competitive from a tax standpoint” and “keeping government more efficient.” Cournoyer added that efforts to shrink government and return funds to taxpayers have been impactful, citing work by the Department of Government Efficiency task force.
The lieutenant governor also linked Trump’s agenda to strong conservative values in Iowa, including “protecting families, parental rights, school choice,” and ensuring people “live their lives without government interference.” On immigration, Cournoyer clarified that Iowa does not have sanctuary cities and emphasizes cooperation between local law enforcement and federal authorities under a “law and order” framework.
When asked about Trump’s proposal for government-funded investment accounts for newborns, Cournoyer shared personal experience as a mother of four children: “I’m a mother of four children, including twin boys, and certainly investing early for their future is a very smart approach.” She concluded that such initiatives are “a great investment in our future” for families.
