FOX NEWS FALLEN FOR AI-GENERATED SNAP VIDEOS: EDITORIAL BLUNDER EXPOSED
Fox News has faced widespread criticism after admitting it mistakenly reported on AI-generated videos falsely depicting recipients of the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) complaining about benefits being disrupted during the ongoing government shutdown. The network’s original story, headlined “SNAP beneficiaries threaten to ransack stores over government shutdown,” featured purported interviews with outraged food-assistance recipients. However, many clips were later revealed to be fabricated using artificial intelligence. Following backlash, Fox changed the headline to “AI videos of SNAP beneficiaries complaining about cuts go viral” and added an editor’s note acknowledging some videos “appear to have been generated by AI.”
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins criticized the SNAP program, calling it “bloated” and “corrupt,” and attributed its issues to former President Joe Biden’s administration. She cited examples of fraud, including individuals receiving benefits in multiple states and arrests for fraudulent activity totaling millions of dollars. Rollins emphasized efforts to enforce rules barring illegal aliens from the program, stating, “No more illegal aliens on SNAP, period.”
