First Lady Melania Trump on Tuesday urged unity and calm amid rising tensions in Minnesota, calling on protesters to remain peaceful as local and federal leaders work to prevent violence.
“We need to unify,” she stated during an interview promoting her new film. “I know that my husband, the president, had a great call yesterday with the governor and the mayor, and they are working together to make it peaceful and without riots and violence. So please, if you protest, protest in peace.”
Her remarks followed heightened unrest in Minnesota after recent turmoil erupted in and around Minneapolis, raising concerns about public safety and the potential for widespread violence.
President Donald Trump spoke with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to de-escalate tensions and foster cooperation among state, local, and federal officials.
In the same interview, Melania Trump expressed deep compassion for Americans affected by recent severe storms, emphasizing that the federal government is providing assistance. “As Americans, we need to help each other and come together in these difficult times,” she said, adding she was sending her “strength and love” to those impacted.
