Multiple polling places in New Jersey were forced to close or relocate Tuesday due to bomb threats, disrupting voting in several communities, according to reports. The closures were temporary in some instances, as noted by New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin.

“Early this morning, law enforcement responded to threats received via email involving certain polling locations in Bergen, Essex, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Passaic Counties,” Platkin stated on X. “Law enforcement officers have secured these polling sites, ensuring voter safety. Some locations have reopened, while others directed voters to nearby alternatives.”

Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh confirmed that polling sites at School 2 and School 10 were temporarily shut down following threats, as reported by New Jersey’s News 12. Newark officials investigated phishing emails containing false bomb threats but clarified a reported threat on Gotthard Street was unfounded. In Middlesex County, Avenel Middle School closed for an active investigation, with voters redirected to Woodbine Avenue Elementary School. A polling site in Lake Como also moved after similar threats, while Passaic Mayor Hector C. Lora confirmed additional threats in his city. Authorities continue to investigate, with election officials emphasizing that voting remains ongoing at alternate locations.
