Kari Lake, acting CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, stated on Wednesday that President Donald Trump delivered what she described as a “100% perfect” night. She argued that Democrats’ reactions in the chamber and the broader media response demonstrated a party and press corps out of step with “reasonable things.”
When asked why Democrats “can’t seem to” move toward the political middle, host Rob Schmitt suggested the party “can’t win without the flank” visible during Trump’s address. Lake responded by highlighting an exception within the Democratic Party, noting that Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania had seemingly figured out how to be a Democrat in these times.
“I think [Pennsylvania Sen. John] Fetterman has figured out how to be a Democrat in these times,” she said on “Rob Schmitt Tonight,” adding that he “has come toward the middle on things” and at least “tries to find some common sense.” Lake acknowledged disagreeing with him broadly but noted, “I don’t agree with probably 85–90% of where he is, but he’s trying to be decent.”
Lake cited sports as an example of what she called reasonable moments during the chamber session, stating, “How do you not get excited for Team USA hockey?” She also criticized certain journalists, referring to them as “filthy rats in the fake news media” who acted like they hated America.
In another instance, Lake pointed to Trump’s remark on immigration, stating he was “masterful” when he said, “Stand up if you support the American people over criminal illegal aliens.” She noted that some Democrats, including Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, sat silently during the address. Lake concluded that Democrats faced embarrassment for not clapping when they should have celebrated achievements such as a soldier returning home after being wounded or capturing Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro.
She described Trump’s night as “so revealing” and added, “It was a really, really bad night for Democrats,” calling it their “rock bottom.” Lake ultimately stated she was glad the president had such a perfect night: “I’m actually glad the president had such a perfect night — it was 100% perfect.”
Additionally, House Republicans were circulating a new censure effort against Representative Al Green of Texas after he was escorted out of the chamber during Trump’s address for disrupting proceedings.
