Democratic Senate Candidates Back Group Linked to Controversial Policies on Children’s Transgender Care and Police Funding Cuts
Democratic Senate candidates are celebrating endorsements from Reproductive Freedom for All, an advocacy group that promotes gender reassignment surgery for children, taxpayer-funded benefits for illegal immigrants, and defunding the police.
Democratic contenders Janet Mills of Maine, Chris Pappas of New Hampshire, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, and Sherrod Brown of Ohio have each publicly praised endorsements from the organization, formerly known as NARAL Pro-Choice America. Reproductive Freedom for All has built a record of advancing progressive social policies far beyond abortion advocacy. The group has repeatedly criticized Republicans for supporting laws that protect minors from irreversible gender reassignment surgeries—a practice critics describe as genital mutilation of children.
In a 2023 post on X, the organization argued that “the fight for reproductive freedom includes fighting for gender-affirming care” and has pushed states to allow biological males to compete in women’s sports. It also labels abortion a “constitutional right” for illegal immigrants and consistently defends access to birth control and “reproductive care” for those in the country illegally, praising efforts to make birth control more accessible to unauthorized residents. Additionally, Reproductive Freedom for All has embraced the radical “defund the police” movement, declaring on X that it is “past time to defund the police” due to what it calls “generations of systemic racism, oppression, and state violence.”
Despite this record, Democratic Senate candidates have not distanced themselves from the group but have publicly celebrated its support. Mills described receiving the endorsement as “honored” and has accepted $5,000 in contributions. Pappas called it “grateful,” having received $20,000 from the organization since 2018. Brown expressed pride in the backing, accepting $53,239 since 1997. Cooper described the endorsement as “deeply grateful.”
As Senate races intensify heading into next year, these endorsements underscore the policy alignment between Democratic candidates and Reproductive Freedom for All on transgender policies, immigration-related abortion access, and calls to cut police funding.
