Comedians Bill Maher and Dana Carvey Condemn Celebrities and Millionaires for ‘Lecturing’ Ordinary Americans on Politics
Comedians Bill Maher and Dana Carvey criticized celebrities and millionaires for lecturing ordinary Americans about politics during a recent podcast episode.
On Monday, Maher stated that celebrities “just make it worse” when they speak, as they are “almost always on one side of the political divide.” He added: “As I always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person; you’re just why [former Vice President Kamala Harris] lost.”
Maher also criticized the notion that celebrities could live on $100 million annually while advocating for specific policies, remarking: “It’s like, that’s game over.”
Carvey echoed these sentiments, stating it is “the elitist thing” to have rich movie stars and politicians lecture ordinary people. He noted this behavior was characteristic of Democrats and predicted they would include “real people” in their discussions by 2028.
Following the 2024 presidential election, Maher has repeatedly criticized the Democratic Party for what he called its “anti-common-sense agenda.” On his HBO show, he stated that Democrats failed to champion democracy and environmental issues—areas critical to him as a voter.
Additionally, Maher highlighted how Democrats did not appear on his podcast during debates, contrasting with Republicans’ consistent participation. Both Bill and Hillary Clinton, along with potential presidential candidate Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., have declined his invitations.
