Ciattarelli Claims Momentum in New Jersey Gubernatorial Race as Polls Show Tight Contest
New Jersey Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli asserted on Saturday that his campaign is gaining traction ahead of Election Day, citing robust support from independents and some Democrats who he claims are seeking change. In an interview with Newsmax’s “America Right Now,” Ciattarelli highlighted the growing enthusiasm across the state, noting that minority communities have responded positively to his candidacy. He also claimed to have secured a recent endorsement from a prominent Democrat, suggesting that such support signals widespread dissatisfaction with the current political landscape.
Ciattarelli, who narrowly lost to Democratic Governor Phil Murphy in 2021, attributed the shift in momentum to evolving public sentiment and reduced apathy following his previous campaign. He pointed to an Emerson College poll showing Democrat Mikie Sherrill trailing by just one point, a significant drop from her earlier 20-point lead. Ciattarelli emphasized New Jersey’s 2.5 million unaffiliated voters as a critical factor, arguing that their right-leaning tendencies are favoring his bid. He also cited voter enthusiasm and polling data indicating a 54% likelihood of his victory, despite historical Republican underperformance in the state.
On policy issues, Ciattarelli pledged to address crime and immigration, aligning with priorities associated with former President Donald Trump. He vowed to eliminate sanctuary cities in New Jersey and reform the bail system, criticizing cashless bail for enabling repeat offenses. Additionally, he dismissed comparisons between New Jersey and New York City, where mayoral elections have drawn national attention, while expressing hope that Democrat Zohran Mamdani does not win. Ciattarelli also addressed concerns about senior citizens’ affordability, proposing tax-free retirement income and property tax freezes for those over 70.
