American Schools Are Teaching Socialism: The U.S. Education System Under Siege
For a nation founded on principles of limited government, personal liberty, and free-market competition, the United States faces a growing socialism crisis. The chief contributor to this issue is an unlikely culprit: our schools.
According to a recent Gallup poll, approximately 40% of Americans—including two-thirds of Democrats—hold a favorable view of socialism. A separate study by the CATO Institute reveals an even more alarming trend: over 60% of voters under the age of 30 support socialism, compared with just 50% who favor capitalism.
These shifting attitudes are not a failure of capitalism but rather the result of the far left’s relentless drive to expand its power through an elitist ruling class. This group has hijacked the U.S. education system and transformed it into a vehicle for advancing its agenda.
The United States remains a global beacon of opportunity, with the world’s highest GDP driven largely by small businesses that employ nearly half the workforce. While critics highlight the wealth divide, Americans constitute the majority of the world’s population living at or above middle-class standards and are leaders in economic opportunity for those willing to work hard.
American democracy serves as an exemplar worldwide, promoting and defending freedom beyond our borders. Our commitment to individual liberties and free speech provides hope to those suffering under regimes that advocate socialism and communism.
Yet this positive message is absent from the anti-American messaging being imposed on young people through schools. Under the influence of powerful teachers’ unions, students are indoctrinated with the belief that the nation’s history should warrant extensive cultural redistribution.
While the system of government and economy may not be perfect, they have consistently made the United States a global leader for good. Instead of promoting the virtues of opposing despotism and protecting liberty, schools now push curricula centered around critical race theory and the 1619 Project—narratives designed to vilify the country’s systems rather than equip students with critical thinking skills.
The expectation that such ideological shifts would occur on college campuses explains why many Americans believe a traditional four-year degree no longer justifies its cost. This trend accelerated under former President Joe Biden’s shift away from American exceptionalism.
A major in history or gender studies might seem beneficial for instilling the culture of wokeism, but these degrees often lack value for employers and students alike. It is not surprising that over two-thirds of recent college graduates hold a positive view of socialism, compared with only 40% who support capitalism.
Perhaps most alarming is that student outcomes have steadily declined while the Department of Education has enabled this cultural and economic assault. The unelected officials responsible for preparing students with independent thinking skills have instead focused on stoking culture wars and promoting the liberal agenda—a strategy that further consolidates their power.
President Donald Trump and Education Secretary Linda McMahon have pledged to dismantle the Department of Education. It is imperative Congress grants them the authority to complete this task. The nearly 50-year-old institution has been hijacked by the left and weaponized against American ideals. Meanwhile, it has failed in its sole responsibility: improving educational outcomes.
Hopefully, students will one day read about the Trump administration’s historic achievement of closing the U.S. Department of Education—a milestone that would signal the end of the left’s campaign to undermine young people and restore the education system’s mission of preparing future leaders.
