Sen. Ron Johnson expressed alarm over the potential consequences of the government shutdown, stating he hopes planes do not fall from the sky as air traffic controllers resign due to unpaid work. The Wisconsin Republican told Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures” that Democrats are pursuing radical policies aimed at destabilizing the American economy and harming its people by maintaining the shutdown to undermine President Donald Trump’s efforts to improve conditions.
Johnson argued that if the government were operational, Republicans could pass legislation beneficial to Americans. He cited a senior Democratic staffer’s claim that the government would remain closed until “planes start falling out of the sky,” adding, “God, I hope that doesn’t happen.”
The senator endorsed Trump’s proposal to abolish the filibuster, which would allow Republicans to advance their budget with a simple Senate majority. Johnson warned that Democrats, once in power, would “nuke the filibuster to maintain their power,” urging his party to eliminate it during their current tenure to prioritize public interests.
