With the government shutdown persisting and Obamacare subsidies set to expire, President Donald Trump is intensifying his criticism of the Affordable Care Act. “OBAMACARE ‘SUCKS,'” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday morning. “THE WORST HEALTHCARE FOR THE HIGHEST PRICE.”

On Saturday, Trump proposed a compromise to address the shutdown impasse, urging Republicans to redirect federal funds currently allocated to health insurance companies under the Affordable Care Act and instead provide them directly to individuals. “PAY THE PEOPLE, NOT THE INSURANCE COMPANIES!” he wrote, a message aimed at resonating with Democratic voters.

The post followed another from Saturday night, in which Trump accused “fat cat” insurance companies of benefiting from a “corrupt system of healthcare” imposed by former President Barack Obama’s legislation. “NO MORE MONEY, HUNDREDS OF BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, TO THE DEMOCRAT SUPPORTED INSURANCE COMPANIES FOR REALLY BAD OBAMACARE,” Trump wrote. He emphasized that funds should now go directly to individuals, allowing them to purchase “MUCH BETTER POLICY, FOR MUCH LESS MONEY.”

Trump reiterated his longstanding call for Senate Republicans to act on healthcare reforms he has advocated since before his 2016 presidential campaign. “I am recommending to Senate Republicans that the Hundreds of Billions of Dollars currently being sent to money sucking Insurance Companies in order to save the bad Healthcare provided by ObamaCare, BE SENT DIRECTLY TO THE PEOPLE,” he wrote.

The president also highlighted the need to end the Affordable Care Act, labeling it “THE WORST HEALTHCARE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.” He further urged Republicans to terminate the filibuster, warning that a future Democratic Congress would do so if given the chance. “Republicans Should Terminate the Filibuster (THE DEMS WILL DO IT THE FIRST CHANCE THEY GET!), End the Shutdown, Pass lots of Great ‘Things,’ and Win the Midterms,” Trump wrote.

The expiration of Obamacare subsidies by 2025 has intensified debates over the law’s future. Eric Mack has been a writer and editor at Newsmax since 2016. He is a 1998 Syracuse University journalism graduate and a New York Press Association award-winning writer.
