Democrat New York mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is leading the country toward socialism, Rep. Buddy Carter told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. The Georgia Republican cited previous Democrat mayors in New York, such as Bill de Blasio, whose policies he argued caused economic decline for the business community, as a reason many residents now seek change.

Carter criticized Mamdani’s platform, stating, “They, unfortunately, are looking at it and finding an antisemitic, Islamist, socialist. And that is not what they need. They don’t need more taxes. They need less taxes.” He warned, “Socialism is nothing more than just mutually shared poverty. And that’s what New Yorkers are going to get when they – if they elect Mamdani.”

Carter also highlighted the upcoming U.S. elections, predicting a “great victory for Republicans.” He referenced Virginia’s Democrat attorney general race, where candidate Jay Jones faced scrutiny over remarks calling for his opponent’s death and that of their children. Carter questioned how Democrats could remain silent on such statements, calling it hypocritical.
