Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz condemned conservative figures Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes during an interview, accusing them of perpetuating antisemitic rhetoric reminiscent of past efforts to infiltrate the Republican Party with bigotry. Dershowitz referenced former conservative leader Pat Buchanan, who he claimed sought to introduce antisemitism into GOP politics decades ago. He noted that intellectual figurehead William Buckley had previously rebuked Buchanan for such actions, effectively sidelining him from the party.

Dershowitz criticized Carlson for aligning with Fuentes, whom he described as a “lapdog” attempting to replicate Buchanan’s tactics. He warned that fostering antisemitism within the Republican Party would be “a terrible thing for America.” The professor also highlighted a perceived ideological parallel between far-right and far-left movements, stating both “hate the Jews,” citing historical examples like Stalin and Hitler.

The commentary followed controversy over Heritage Foundation Chair Kevin Roberts’ initial defense of Carlson after he interviewed Fuentes. While Roberts later distanced himself from Fuentes’ views, Dershowitz called for public accountability, urging shame on figures who “tolerate” individuals promoting antisemitic ideologies. He specifically criticized New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, labeling him a “terrible, terrible human being.”

Dershowitz praised House Speaker Mike Johnson for his support of Jewish communities and urged him to prevent antisemitic voices from gaining traction within the Republican Party. The professor emphasized that “a centrist country” like the United States must reject extremist rhetoric on all sides.
