Marshall: Democrats’ Post-Trump State of the Union Reaction ‘Looks Like a Morgue’

President Trump declared during his State of the Union address that America had staged “one of the greatest comebacks in modern history,” stating that after just one year back in office, the country was experiencing “a turnaround for the ages.”
Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., stated on Wednesday that President Trump’s speech was all about “winning.”
“Winning, winning, and more winning,” Marshall said.
He described walking into a gathering where attendees on his right side were excited and jumping up and down, while those on the left side appeared at a funeral — an atmosphere he likened to a morgue.
“I never saw such horrible body language from Democrats as I did last night. They’ve been beaten about the brow by Donald Trump,” Marshall said.
The senator identified the defining moment of the evening when Trump called on attendees to stand if they believed the federal government’s primary responsibility is to protect the American people.
“And when they wouldn’t stand up for that, I think the night was over with,” he added.
Marshall noted Democrats stood six or seven times during the event, which he described as unexpected: “I didn’t think it would be that often.”
The senator also said Democrats’ post-speech remarks reflected their complaints about Trump’s policies, adding: “They’ve never seen a tax they didn’t like. Every problem they see, they have a new solution for it, and it’s always taking your money and giving it to somebody else.”
Marshall then highlighted economic indicators: “President Trump’s policies are working. The average job growth in wages is $1,400 over inflation this last year. Rent has gone down six months in a row — the lowest point in four years. Inflation has slowed down.”
He concluded by urging Trump to continue: “President Trump’s policies are working. And please, Mr. President, more winning for us.”
