Leftist ‘Nuremberg Trial’ Rhetoric Fuels Attacks on Federal Immigration Officers, Homan Warns
White House border czar Tom Homan warned Thursday that inflammatory rhetoric from leftist commentators — including calls for “Nuremberg trials” — is dangerous and fuels violence against federal immigration officers.
Homan stated that such rhetoric inflames a segment of the left that seeks opportunities to attack Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. He was responding to lawmakers and commentators who have called for Nuremberg-style trials to hold Trump administration officials accountable for enforcing federal immigration laws.
“It’s hateful rhetoric,” Homan said, adding that when political figures compare ICE officers to Nazis or secret police, it emboldens unstable individuals to act against law enforcement.
Homan cited recent incidents: a shooting in Texas where detainees died and an officer was shot in Minnesota, as well as the Minneapolis shootings involving ICE and Border Patrol agents.
Homan emphasized that his warning from March has been proven correct: “If the rhetoric doesn’t stop — the hateful rhetoric comparing ICE and Nazis and secret police — there will be bloodshed. And unfortunately, I’ve been right.”
The border czar also noted that when political figures refer to ICE as the “modern-day Gestapo” or similar terms, it provides a pretext for violence. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s comparison of ICE to the Gestapo and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s calls for federal agents to leave the city have been cited by Homan as examples.
“And when you hear a congressman or senator or mayor or governor compare ICE to Nazis, they feel emboldened to do stupid things,” Homan added.
