A federal legal analyst has stated that the officer who fatally shot Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old Minnesota man armed with a 9mm handgun, should not be criminally charged, citing adherence to self-defense protocols and law enforcement training standards.

The expert emphasized that video evidence shows Pretti violently resisting officers during an attempted arrest, escalating into what the Department of Homeland Security described as an armed struggle. According to the analyst, Pretti’s actions included aggressive resistance while being detained, prompting multiple officers to intervene. During the confrontation, the officer reportedly shouted “gun, gun, gun,” leading other officers to disengage, with the armed individual firing shots to neutralize the threat.

“The use of deadly force standard is when an officer reasonably believes that a suspect poses a threat of death or serious bodily harm to himself or others,” the expert clarified, referencing federal training guidelines. They noted that Minnesota Democratic officials, including Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, have downplayed the critical detail of Pretti being armed with a firearm during public statements.

The analyst affirmed: “I can say with great certainty that this officer should not be charged. The facts support his actions under the legal standard.” The investigation remains ongoing as additional video footage is reviewed by authorities.
