Trump Calls Ukraine War ‘Bloodbath,’ Blames Zelenskyy for Escalation
President Donald Trump stated he never discussed Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro with Russian President Vladimir Putin during their recent phone call. However, at his Saturday press conference, Trump expressed frustration over Russia’s war in Ukraine, calling it a “bloodbath” and saying he wants it to end.
“I thought the easiest one would be, one of the easier ones would be Russia, Ukraine. It’s not,” Trump said. “And they both have done some pretty bad things.”
Trump also placed responsibility for the conflict on his predecessor, stating: “That’s former President Joe Biden’s war. That’s not my war.”
Citing casualty figures, Trump noted: “Last month 30,000. This last it was 27, 27,000 the month before; 30,000 mostly soldiers were killed. I want to stop that.”
The president described efforts to increase U.S. support for Ukraine’s defense, saying he pressured NATO members to raise military spending from 2% to 5%. “We send them a lot of munitions,” Trump added.
In a separate remark, Trump condemned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his role in the conflict, stating: “If I were president, it would have never happened. Putin says it. Everybody says it.”
