Senator Jon Ossoff, a Democratic candidate from Georgia, has been criticized by RNC Research for attempting to “gaslight his way out” of his voting record during government shutdowns.
In an interview held on Sunday, Ossoff stated he repeatedly voted to fund the federal government and extend Affordable Care Act tax credits, calling this the right policy for Americans.
He emphasized that citizens do not want their insurance premiums to rise by hundreds of dollars monthly or experience federal government shutdowns.
“Right now, the question is whether we can do the right thing in the Senate and extend these Affordable Care Act benefits so that my constituents don’t face preventable health crises, don’t face death from treatable illness, and don’t face financial ruin at a time when the cost of living is out of control,” Ossoff added.
RNC Research reported that Ossoff “voted for the longest government shutdown in history 15 TIMES — withholding paychecks from over 100,000 Georgians and food assistance from over 1 million.”
Ossoff cast his vote against the primary bill to end the shutdown in early November, arguing that the legislation lacked sufficient provisions for Affordable Care Act subsidies and Medicaid cuts.
During the shutdown period, he consistently supported bills providing paychecks for essential workers, including military personnel and Transportation Security Administration employees. Subsequently, he joined a bipartisan group to reopen government after healthcare concessions were incorporated, as most Democrats continued their stance.
