NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 2) — President Donald Trump has thrown his weight behind former Representative Matt Van Epps in the Republican primary race for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District seat.

Van Epps, a former commissioner of the Tennessee Department of General Services, is seeking to fill the vacancy created by Mark Green’s resignation on July 21. The contest pits Van Epps against Democrat state Rep. Aftyn Behn.

Trump announced his complete and total endorsement late Tuesday via a post on Truth Social, urging supporters in TN-07 to get out and vote for their colleague. “I am asking all America First Patriots in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District to please GET OUT AND VOTE TOMORROW for a phenomenal Candidate, Matt Van Epps,” Trump declared.

“This election is winnable if you support the right candidate,” Trump added directly to his supporters. “Matt Van Epps has my complete and total endorsement.”

He further differentiated Van Epps from Behn by highlighting shared values: “HE WILL BE A GREAT CONGRESSMAN and, unlike his Opponent, he cherishes Christianity and Country Music — She has openly stated that she hates them both!”

Van Epps is currently pursuing a private-sector opportunity with Prosimo, a cloud-computing company.

The 7th District includes areas of North and West Nashville. Though historically Republican, the race has drawn significant Democratic spending and attention from national figures seeking to challenge incumbents in this key congressional area.

Polls for Tuesday’s special election are open from no later than 9:00 AM until closing at 7:00 PM local time, with voters instructed to check their specific locations using swampthevoteusa.com/tennessee/.
