Trump’s Approval Rating Remains Unusually Stable
Polling expert Patrick Allocco, speaking on Newsmax’s “Finnerty” program Monday night, asserted that President Donald Trump’s approval rating remains unusually stable compared to his predecessors.
Contrary to recent headlines suggesting Trump has reached the lowest point of his second term, Allocco pointed out Gallup’s historical trend line indicates his current standing aligns closely with his first-term average. According to the expert, Trump averages about 41% in overall approval ratings from Gallup polls, which matches exactly where he was during his initial presidency.
Allocco also referenced Reuters/Ipsos polling data showing Trump at 38%. Despite these figures, he emphasized that Trump’s approval has a remarkably narrow band compared to other modern presidents. The expert stated that what we’re witnessing is the most stable, narrowest approval band of any president over a 30-year period for this point in their career.
When questioned about discrepancies with some pollsters’ data showing weaker numbers than his own analysis, Allocco highlighted methodological differences as key factors. He noted most polls survey all adults, including non-voters and low-engagement respondents, which tends to depress ratings compared to surveys focusing specifically on registered or likely voters.
According to the expert, implementing screens for registered voters and likely voter groups typically boosts Trump’s standing roughly five points into the mid-40s range. Allocco cited various aggregators like RealClearPolitics (currently at 43.1%) and Rasmussen (at 46%) that factor in polls with different methodologies to provide a broader perspective.
He explained this stability by attributing it partly to party polarization, stating both parties show high partisan alignment for Trump, leaving fewer swing voters. This pattern of settlement suggests his support consistently hovers near the 45-47% mark when considering registered and likely voter samples.
